the best men's player of 2022 at FIFA's The Best awards

Lionel Messi was crowned the best men's player of 2022 at FIFA's The Best awards after his World Cup heroics with Argentina. He played a crucial role in Argentina's World Cup victory, scoring seven goals and providing three assists, including a brace in the final.

Messi also picked up the Golden Ball award as the tournament's best player, becoming the first player in history to receive the prize twice, having won it previously in Brazil in 2014.

This was Messi's second FIFA Best men's player award, adding to his FIFA World Player of the Year award received back in 2009. With this win, he has pulled level with Cristiano Ronaldo (2016, 2017) and Robert Lewandowski (2020, 2021), who have shared all but one of the prizes, with the 2018 edition awarded to Luka Modric.

Interestingly, Messi is the only player to score in the World Cup in his teens, 20s, and 30s. While he is yet to win a team trophy with Paris Saint-Germain this season, he has contributed with 33 goal involvements in 28 matches, helping the team sit eight points clear at the top of Ligue
